Movie Review: May 21

In this edition of Movie Madness, I, Boots himself, screened War Dance, a documentary about kids in Northern Uganda (you may have noticed I'm going with rottentomato instead of imdb for the links as i find it the superior resource). It won a couple awards a Sundance... no big deal. What is a big deal is that I really liked it and am giving it 8.5 boxes of Cream of Wheat out of 10!!! Its a really cool story that is not so dissimilar from a Disney flick I know well called The Mighty Ducks (but War Dance is a true story). Kids from the Northern Uganda's war zone (district 5) get help from some accomplished musicians (G. Bombay) in an attempt to compete with the kids from the better part of the country (Hawks) at a nation wide music competition (Minnesota Pee-Wee hockey). While getting to the National Music Festival is what moves the story along, it's really more of a vehicle for three kids to tell their story about the atrocities of war (no longer attempting to parallel with MD). It will more than likely bring tears to your eyes, but it also will make you smile and laugh. Well done all around. While this moves it to my top spot in the movies viewed, ranking War Dance against The Savages is a definite apples to oranges deal. Since I'm ranking on a completely subjective scale based only on my viewing experience, apples it is.

Title: War Dance
Watched With: Hollywood (kinda) and Erin
Evaluation: 8.5/10Up to Date Ranking
1.War Dance
2.The Savages

  1. Apparently, it's not so much like comparing apples to oranges as it is like comparing Cream of Wheat to other, larger quantities of Cream of Wheat.
